WHAT DOES A PITCH LOOKS LIKE?

Image
Either you submit your music to online blogs, printed magazines, playlists, radios or podcasts, you need to send a "pitch"... But for the last time, what is a "pitch"? Think about the best way to sell a new product, but instead you're promoting your music..! It's basically the email you're sending to the blogs, magazines, playlists, radios, podcasts, etc In this email, and in a few phrases, you'll present the best way possible your new release, with catchy words and the best highlights (for example that your new song was produced by a Grammy award winner super famous guy). Must-Read: How to Get the Most Out of Your Radio Airplay? The content of this email (or pitch) is combined with a shorter version of your press release.  It has to make people want to listen to your music, or intrigued, or curious, or like you even before they heard your music. (it's the most difficult part!) This email should look professional, straight to the poi...

HOW TO PLUG MUSIC TO RADIOS ?

Image
Radio plugging is very different compared to online promotion and blog submissions. It's very competitive and national radio stations have limited shows that play out emerging and unsigned artists.  Must-Read: THE PERFECT CALENDAR FOR YOUR NEXT RELEASE It’s difficult but it’s possible, so keep reading!  Here's how I submit music to radios : 1) Choose one song   In the Blogs submission email, you may be pitching a full EP or Album, but  with radio, you only need to pitch one track   so don’t send a link to a full album ; producers don’t have the time to listen to the full thing to choose which track is their favorite.  But if you feel your EP/Album has multiple styles throughout, that’s when you can look at promoting more than one song. If one track is a commercial pop and the other is a dance remix, you can push the remix to dance stations, giving you more areas to connect with and therefore more radio plays. The single that  you  cho...

10 things to consider before hiring a music PR

1. ) Don't think that you need a publicist right away. "You do not need a publicist if you're a relatively new band who has yet to put out an album, can't tour outside of your hometown or your general geographic area, and if the cost of hiring a publicist is going to hurt you financially," says Seide, who's repped Tool, Baroness, and the Melvins. If you're planning to release your first song, your first EP or your first album, I truly think that a DIY publicity approach is the first strategy to do.  Think about the bigger picture: If your goal is to be featured in NME, there's a long journey of work, research and efforts before getting their attention and writing something about your music. Even the most expensive PR won't accomplish that miracle. There's no shortcut. Period. So reach out and connect with local music writers and editors, smaller regional and national music blogs, and maintain a robust social-media presence by pos...

WHY DOES A SONG NEED TO BE PROMOTED ?

Image
Our life as musicians should be simple:  write and record awesome songs and then wait for the world to hear them... Unfortunately, it’s not that simple :  Getting music, and the stories behind the songs, out into the world is just as important as writing them. How do we do that?  Music magazines and websites are our first outlet. They can premiere our songs, interview us or write a review of our latest release... Getting this coverage is not something we generally know how to do, and we’re unlikely to get on the cover of a magazine without having made a name for ourselves..  First of all, it's ok to dream big, but you'll need to start with local news sites and small blogs. Once you secure a series of articles and bring interest to your music, you'll grow and so will your publications. Must-Read: How much does a PR campaign cost? Rule #1:  Always keep in mind that you have competition ! Blogs and Magazines receive hundreds of artists and music submis...
